Overview
In 2014, City University School Girls Preparatory (Girls Prep) was created as a college preparatory school for middle school girls and remains committed to that mission. Research shows single gender education is powerful, particularly during the middle school years. The school places emphasis on the educational, social, and psychological development of middle school girls. The school seeks to inspire and motivate girls to strive for excellence in every endeavor; instilling in them the enormous potential and power of being a girl.
City University Schools recognizes that the journey to college begins before high school. Girls Prep promotes early awareness of college and career planning by preparing scholars to have the strongest possible start in high school. To ensure a smooth transition into high school and college, City University Girls Prep collaborates with City University School of Liberal Arts. The school provides scholars access to a diverse offering of courses, coupled with a curriculum that enables and empowers young girls with the abilities to achieve success in any environment.
When a girl graduates from Girls Prep, she is equipped with a sense of self, and the learning skills and living skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century. A Girls Prep scholar is prepared for college before high school.
Curriculum
The School curriculum establishes a strong foundation in core academic subjects such as reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies, the sciences, foreign language, technology, the arts, citizenship and leadership. In addition, our collaboration with City University School of Liberal Arts builds a curricular foundation to better prepare scholars for transition to high school and later college.
Extracurricular Activities
Led by an experienced team of educators, our girls receive a quality experience—inside and outside the classroom. City University School Girls Prep offers an array of extracurricular activities. Scholars can join the Health & Fitness Club, Math Club, Lions Who Heart Reading, Student Government Association, Zumba, Cubs Running Club, Girls Prep Dance Club, or the City University Track & Field team.
Guidance Department
The Guidance Department supports our students to ensure they develop into twenty first scholars and citizens. Our staff strive to meet the individualized needs of our scholars as they progress through City University.
Should a scholar wish to talk with a counselor, he/she should make an appointment with the main office in advance. Scholars will be given appointments during elective periods only. No scholar should miss a scheduled class unless he/she does not have any electives or an emergency exists.
